EVALUATION SCRIPT/PLAN
I want to create a documentary that answers all the questions by using clips and images from the journey of creating the products. Aiming to create an informal, 'vlog' type of a documentary that is able to portray the work put into the production of our media products.
*clip of me talking*
We had to make a Music video with an unsigned artist, as well as two ancillary products with it
*show clips of music video and ancillary products*
*clip of me talking*
In this documentary I will answer the set questions for evaluation as well as further explain why we made certain decisions.
Question 1)
In what ways does your media product/s use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
To be able to plan our music video we had to research into music videos that had a similar genre as our chosen songs as we have to fit an image to our video (CARLSSON)
and narrative - not narrative performance cause our chosen artist was not available to meet- so we had o create a character that would not sing/vocal sync with the music
Therefore having to stick with a narrative music video so that's what we researched into.
*show prezi on music video research* + voiceover
Lana del ray - voice over- extremely useful in explaining the narrative - show some of monologue, and vid
*show letters monologue* - talk about the inspiration and costume - narrative
* continue with prezi screen vid*
*show small clip of John Newman - muted?*
John Newman - love me again - strong narrative and performance - talk about
costume and small details to set and characters.
star image convention - we challenge that out of compulsion to due our artiste being unable to be present in our production.
2) HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY PRODUCTS TEXTS?
*vid of me talking*
Talk about what our products are: music video, poster advert and digipak.
We had used a theme throughout - a 1950s in the music video, used the same actress in the advert
- digipak has some stills from the video as well as photos taken at the time of the shoot on the same sets.
*Show video, relative videos that match the ones on the poster and digipak*
(talk about why it should be effective- because of marketing purposes )
The poster had to show some relation to the video, that way audiences can establish a connections.
and digipak - raf made it
*video or voice over of how effective she thinks the combination of the main product and digipak is -
*then video of me talking further about what she said*
research into adverts - ben howard- its simplicity- you see the name and matching picture to the album art
Nina Nesbitt - image of herself - she wants to be the image of her own music
-
3) WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
*vid of me talking*
created four music video drafts
1st one- class mates and teacher feedback - too much walking and certain clips were very long ( edited it out and included some other unused clips
2nd- questionnaire and social network sharing - didnt get what she was looking for - need more emotion to be shown (filmed more footage)
3rd- more teacher and quesstionaire feedback - beginning was kind of empty- (then made monologue)
4th- final product was created.
Poster- created questionnaire asking which out of the 11 types of the posters we should use.
found out which was the most popular and developed them further.
Using audience feedback was useful because when creating a product, someone can't always find their own faults on a video or know what else to add, and we've found that with our audience feedback we were able to further develop our video to the standard we wanted.
4) HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES
*vid of me talking*
We used so many media technologies throughout our journey in creating our products
*Show some clips of research prezi - with voice over*
Research: Press
*show clips of editing animatic and voice over*
Planning: final cut pro x- created an animatic - which was editing and garageband
*show clips of blogger - scrolling down on the images of production*
preproduction: blogger - updating with image of attic and production of set
*show clip of editing and final*
Practise test shoot- final cut pro x - experimenting with it as this would be our first time using it.
*show clip of questionaire and results*
Google docs- questionnaires
*show clips of editing and final product*
Postproduction: Editing : final cut pro x, garage band and photoshop.
*show clips of editing and final product + voiceover*
Evaluation documentary: final cut pro, garage band, photoshop and iMovie.

Music Artist magazine/poster advert
This is the one of the final drafts of the poster for our ancillary products, please excuse the fact that it is larger than the blog. I only present like this because I wanted to show it's original size that I created it in rather than the chosen sizes made by blogger which are too small for a poster.

REFLECTIVE RESPONSE
After completing my first practise essay i have received some feedback.
- Was told I have to take care of my handwriting, which sometimes makes it difficult to read. : i honestly have been trying to change it for years.
I make clear and consistent use of media terminology but i need to use more examples e.g. - which specific vampire films/music videos did you research?
And which elements did you analyse within those products, and how did you apply this to your production work and show progress from AS to A2.
- for this I will have to revisit my research and revise what i have learnt for specific examples so to mention and evaluate my use of it in the exam.

Further development ideas on music video and draft 3 of music video
*just documenting some thoughts*
LETTERS - draft 3 from farhana i on Vimeo.
Due to feedback from Mr Holloway and the rest of the class (who watched the video above) all say there needs to be something done to the beginning of the video where there is no sound or music.
So from that i have come up with some ideas:
To edit the song on Garage band and use the beginning part if the song ( the repeated notes on the guitar) at a lower volume and have that repeated.
- On top of that a voice over of the young girl (souz) talking,
Since we need to fill in a 20 second gap, i was thinking of some sort of monologue type e.g,
"There's always that pivotal moment in life.
That one moment that changes everything and the result you carry for the rest of your life.
You cant change it, it just happens.
Faith doesn't notify you of the change,
once its written there's no way of going back.
You just have to accept it,
no matter how much it hurts"
This is a rough draft of the monologue.
I chose the words " once its written theres no way of going back" which ties in with the letter being written by the boyfriend saying he no longer wants to be in the relationship.
This is just to document my thoughts on what could be done next, i will later upload a video of a response of people watching the second draft (with the monologue and added scenes) and their response whilst watching the video.

Research into music videos
I have done some research into a few music videos that i believe that we can use for inspiration and can be related to what we want to achieve in our product.
Each of the music videos i have chosen are all from different music genres, but all have a narrative and some form of choice of a time period in common which is why i have chosen those specific videos.
The research i have done is presented in a 'Prezi' below.

Essay - Sinaed O'Connor and Miley Cyrus
(Scribd account is currently not working - will reupload during monday's lesson)
Why is the public row between the music artists Sinaed O’Connor and Miley Cyrus important in understanding the relationship between artistes and between artiste and audience? Explore with reference to the representation of women, media institutions and the role of the media.
Music videos can be a video showing a performance, a type of
interpretation of the lyrics, and/or concept that shows a specific message for
the audience. One of the main ideas behind a music video is to establish a
relationship and connect with the audience. In the increasingly recent climate
of music videos inferring a controversial message, there has been an increase
of public arguments between artists about music videos and the type of messaged
they are portraying to the audience.
An example would be the current ongoing public row between
Sinead O’Connor and Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus, a former child star best known
for her work on children’s T.V show – Hannah Montana, is releasing a new album alongside
some controversial yet very popular music videos. Her recent videos with her
new ‘image’ include, ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’ and some videos with
her being featured in are, ‘Decisions’ and ‘23’. Her first own music video from
her album ‘Bangerz’ is ‘We Can’t Stop’- a staged house party. Though the lyrics refer
to some drug use whilst partying, the video is quite tame in comparison to her
next one. ‘We Can’t Stop’ has reached over 20,000,000 views on Youtube, due to
many reasons. But one main reason could be, as many believe, that most of the
audience wants to see the change Miley Cyrus has gone through and what she does
in her video regardless whether or not they enjoy her music or not. Her second
video - ‘Wrecking Ball’ shows her nude on a construction wrecking ball as well
as licking a sledgehammer. Due to the popularity and the success of ‘We Can’t
Stop’ more people wanted to also see if this new music video would be as
successful and popular as the last, and it was. It now holds the record for the
most views in the first 24 hours. But because of the nature of the video there
are some other reasons and explanations as to why her video was so popular so
fast. Some of those could be because of the male gaze and this video fulfilling
it.
The media industry has had a long and shady history with women.
From music videos, to films to product advertisement, women had a many roles in
order to widen the audience as well as to broaden the pay check of those in the
media institution. Women have been many a times been exploited in order to make
them popular and therefore making them believe that taking a specific route may
allow them to fulfill their dreams in the Media world. Using the example of
music video, a female singer who signs up to a record company who also deals
with her music videos , may ask her to sing certain songs that are currently in
‘Vogue’. These can be anything about love, drugs, sex and partying etc. But
because of these the artiste is able to connect with the audience.
Miley Cyrus is an artiste that many believe has taken this
route. Her audience, mostly girls from ages 12 to 19, is seen as an influential
group and many of the journalistic media believe that her actions could heavily
influence the audience into behaving the same way. Due to many believing it, it
caused a public row between Sinead O’Connor and Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus first
claimed that her video ‘Wrecking Ball’ that includes her naked on a wrecking
ball, was inspired by Sinead O’Connor’s video ‘Nothing Compares to U’. In response
O’Connor says to Cyrus that she should not allow the music industry to ‘prostitute
her’. This meaning letting the music industry exploit her in any way possible, some
ways could be sexually, mentally and visually. It shows the truth of the music
industry and provides proof to many of the theories that believe the industries
exploit female artistes and fooling them to think that it will help them become
a more popular and successful artist.
The row between the two artists shows how important the
relationship between the artistes and between artiste and audience. Between
artistes, it is proven that having positive relationships with each other is
beneficial for both artistes and audience, as the can both gain from each other
from publicity and connections in the industry to broaden their opportunities.
If there isn’t a harmonious relationship each of the artiste may badmouth the
other which may reduce their popularity, which then may affect their music
sales. This also applies for the relationship between the artiste and the
audience. The artiste needs to make the audience feel they been thought for and
also appreciated for their dedication of supporting them. Some examples would
be Lady Gaga and her fans which she calls ‘Monsters’, Slipknot and their fans called ‘Maggots’ etc.
Their relationship is strong and they regularly thank and say that they are
grateful for their fans dedication and support.
Overall relationships in the music industry are important to
keep harmonious, and to disrupt them may cause a decrease in popularity or an
increase of popularity for the wrong reasons which could lead to knock on
negative effects. But the relationships are also affected on how the artiste
decides to present themselves and if they exploit themselves in the way
mentioned above and whether or not this goes against what’s considered to be
acceptable by other artistes and the audience. And this is crucial for an
artiste to know and be able to control their own success.

Problem and resolution
After staring at the screen for 10 minutes trying to figure out how to do the simplest things on final cut pro x, i resorted to youtube and found this helpful short video on how to rotate a video which helped me overcome my little problem.

Test shoot - experimenting
Me and Rafia experimented with filters and fast motion. We did this because we wanted to see what kind of filters would be suitable for a 1950s feel for a music video.
